Chery Pakistan has launched 2 crossover SUVs in an unveiling ceremony held in Karachi; Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. Tiggo 4 is the smaller of the two. Both models were put up for the media to see. One thing that was obvious from the display units was that both models were not the final product that we will be getting in Pakistan since they were both left hand-drive cars. They were imported from China only as display units, so expect locally produced models to be different from what we got to see at the launch event.
But it looks like Chery Pakistan will also be launching Tiggo 7 Pro along with those two. If you check Chery Pakistan’s website, you will notice 3 models mentioned there; and Tiggo 7 is the 3rd model.
Being the smallest car of the lineup, Tiggo 4 Pro will compete with vehicles like Kia Stonic, Honda BR-V and the upcoming Peugeot 2008. On the other hand, the Tiggo 8 Pro will compete against vehicles like Kia Sorento, Haval H6, and in some aspects, even Toyota Fortuner as well.
For our keen-eyed viewers, some of you might have noticed the resemblance between Tiggo 8 Pro and newly launched Haval H6. Both look pretty much the same except for the frontends of both vehicles. If you look at the side profile of these cars, they look exactly the same. Notice the roofline and the window’s shape at the d-pillar of both cars, they look pretty much the same. And curves and bulges are also the same story. If you hide the badges of both cars from the front, most casual viewers won’t be able to tell which car is which.
However, dimension wise, both cars are slightly different even if visually they share the same features. Haval H6 is 4683x1886x1730mm whereas Tiggo 8 is 4722x1860x1745mm. These measurements make Tiggo 8 slightly longer and taller than H6.
The wheelbase of Tiggo 8 is 2710mm. Wheelbase of the Kia Sorento is 2778mm and the wheelbase of the Haval H6 is 2738mm. Kia is clearly the winner here, with Haval being in 2nd place and Tiggo in 3rd. The Havel H6 has 28mm longer wheelbase than the Tiggo 8. 28mm is around 1.1 inch. It doesn’t sound much but even this much increase in wheelbase can drastically change a car’s behaviour on the road. Wheelbase determines not only the interior space but also has a huge impact on driving characteristics of the car; high-speed stability, manoeuvrability, turning radius, etc.
Engine and Gearbox
Chery Tiggo 8 will be available with a 1.6 TDGi 4-cylinder engine that makes 195 horsepower and is mated with a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. Honda Vezel, MG and even Changan Alsvin owners might be familiar with this DCT system. Tiggo 8 makes 290 Nm of torque. Haval H6 that will be offered in Pakistan will come with a 1.5L turbo engine that makes a little over 145 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. As you can see, Tiggo 8 outperformes Haval H6 in terms of power on paper at least. Both Haval and Tiggo 8 are front-wheel drive cars.
And if you want to compare these two cars with Kia Sorento, well the 2.4L 4-cylinder Sorento makes 172 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque whereas the 3.5L V6 variant makes 277 horsepower and 336 Nm of torque. So yeah, the bigger engine of the Sorento wins the horsepower race among all of these cars. H6 is internationally available with a 2.0L turbo engine which makes a lot more power than Tiggo 8’s engine but since it is not going to be made available in Pakistan so no point mentioning its specs.
Ghandhara Nissan, the local partners of Chery China, has been investing heavily in the dealership infrastructure to provide easy to access services to its customers. Also, the company is committed to upgrade its plant and assembly line and aims to produce more than 15000 units of vehicles per year.
There is no news on the prices of both Tiggo cars but its safe to assume they will be competing with the market trend.
