In a bid to train young minds regarding the technical aspects of automotive vehicles, CarFirst structured a training program for mechanical and automotive engineers from NED and NUST. The program not only aimed to provide theoretical knowledge to the young participants but it also aimed to expose the candidates to the practical aspects as they were provided with the hands on practical training by experienced instructors at Aman Tech.
In all, CarFirst received 500 applicants for the course in total which were further trimmed down to 15 apprentices. The course was spread across 10 weeks where first 8 weeks of training was done at CarFirst Regional Office and last 2 weeks were spent at Aman Tech Institute. In Aman Tech, the apprentices were provided with training and a refresher course so that they can be assessed according to government standards to receive certifications from Sindh Trade Testing Board (STTB). The training was supervised by well-qualified trainers who had hands-on experience in the vehicle industry. The entire program transferred detailed insights about the automotive industry to the candidates.
The program was designed in such a manner that it required the candidates to balance out the theoretical and practical knowledge about the automotive world. The program taught things entirely related to cars and the market dynamics of automobile industry in Pakistan. The main topics covered were:
- Inspection Basics
- Body Evaluation
- Electrical and Electronic Information
- Elcometer Usage Training
- Tires and Suspension analysis
By the end of this program, participants were able to carry out vehicle diagnosis and inspections independently using the skills and techniques they learnt during their tenure as apprentices. Also, candidates had developed a great skill-set which enabled them to apply for their dream jobs in automotive circle. The apprentices were then offered a permanent role in CarFirst as Vehicle Diagnosis Engineer and were placed in different departments across Pakistan.
Launching an apprenticeship program that is first of its kind has been a challenging yet amazing experience for all of us at Carfirst. We have some of the best talent of Pakistan onboard with us now and we look forward to developing them as our future leaders!
