After the relatively mediocre reception of the 2000cc Elantra, rumours suggest Hyundai Pakistan is about to launch a smaller displacement engine variant of their sedan in Pakistan.
The engine in question is a 1600cc unit that will be competing with other vehicles in the similar engine segment like 1.6 Corolla, lower grade 1.5 Civic, and even different 1500cc cars like the City and Yaris and even Alsvin.
The company plans to officially launch the new variant Elantra in the next couple of weeks.
The 1.6 Elantra might also lack some features the 2000cc Elantra has to make it even more price competitive. Hyundai Pakistan will need to be competitive considering how full the c-segment market is right now with all the available sedan options. And even having vehicles like Kia Stonic in the same price bracket of around 4 million will force Hyundai Pakistan to work carefully on their pricing strategy.
Hyundai Nishat has seen most obvious success with the Tucson SUV. But their surprise hit has been Hyundai Sonata which offers great value. It is only in the last month or so the Elantra has seen some decent sales figures. The decision to launch a smaller displacement engine will not only help increase the sales of Elantra but will also open the brand to more customers on the whole.
]Let’s wait and see if the new 1.6 sedan by Hyundai Pakistan will be able to put a dent in the sales of other local carmakers or not.
