Well a new month and a new car launch in Pakistan. The latest car to be unveiled to the public is Changan Oshan X7 Plus by Master Motor who are the local partners of Chinese automaker Changan. The new crossover SUV will make its global premiere on 7th March 2022.
The news was broken by none other than Changan’s CEO Danial Malick in a short video clip posted on Changan Pakistan’s socials. Previously, Changan Pakistan shared video and images from Oshan’s rolling-off ceremony in February making the official launch of the new car imminent.
Unlike someone like Honda Pakistan where the company expects you to book and buy their new cars without even looking at them first personally, Changan Pakistan has been active to actually show people what they will be getting and will start booking only when the vehicle is first available for public viewing in their showrooms.
Oshan X7 Plus is a crossover SUV and will be competing with a handful of other similar vehicles in the market, including Kia Sportage, MG HS, and Glory 580 to name a few. The new SUV is rumoured to be available with a 1.5L turbo engine as it has been the case with most of these Chinese vehicles and will come with a 7-speed DCT. Changan’s CEO Danial Malick has previously mentioned that it is going to be a Euro-6 engine, making it Pakistan’s first Euro-6 internal combustion engine.
Among other conventional and almost expected features like lane assist, hill assist, 360 parking camera and much more, one feature that needs to be mentioned here is that the new vehicle will be able to do some level of autonomous driving. Mr CEO mentioned that the company has been testing at level-3 for autonomous driving but how successful they have been in their testing, only time will tell.
It is also important to mention that this is going to be Changan Oshan’s global debut. So basically this is the first car in Pakistan that is going to be unveiled to the global audience. And this makes it a pretty big deal for Pakistan. One interesting thing about this new Changan SUV is that it will be assembled in Pakistan and will be exported to other countries where they have right hand drive traffic. So in a way, it will be going to be one of the first cars to be made in Pakistan and then exported which makes it a pretty big deal for not only Pakistan’s auto sector but also for Pakistan as a whole. Keep in mind there are already many smaller vehicles like bikes and rickshaws that are being exported, but it will be the first full-fledged car/vehicle that will be exported.
Keep in mind there are more crossover SUVs bound to be launched in Pakistan. One of the immediate and expected launches is by Cherry Pakistan who will be launching potentially three, and at least two crossover SUVs under the name of Tiggo. Only a few months back Ghandhara Motors Pakistan, the local partners of Chinese carmaker Chery, held an unveiling event showing the upcoming Tiggo 4 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro. The third car in question is Tiggo 7 Pro which is being displayed in Cherry Pakistan’s website but was not shown at the unveiling event.
